Lights, snacks, ACTION! We’ve set the scene, all you have to do is gather your dream cast (family)! This family day, plan the ultimate movie marathon with the help of your friends here at Maple Lodge Farms. Can’t decide what to watch? Like a great supporting actor, we got you! Here is a list of some of our family favourites for every age group and the perfect movie snack combo.

Preschool:

Paddington & Paddington 2: The iconic bear comes to life in Paddington and Paddington 2. The sandwich loving bear will not only make your little ones laugh, but he may just give  parents a nostalgic feeling.

School Age:

Coco: This colourful and musical tale does a great job of capturing one’s attention and is a great way of introducing another culture in your kids lives.

Tweens:

The Breakfast Club: Share this classic  movie with your soon to be teens. This coming of age classic is sure to be a good time for the whole family.

Teens:

Big Fish: Just as they start to drift away, reel them back in with this enchanting tale of family and life. This film’s touch of magical realism and comedic moments are sure to keep the whole family captivated.

Family Day Activity Guide: Scavenger Hunt

If you’re an outdoorsy and active family, planning a scavenger hunt is the perfect family day activity. . Scavenger hunts are a perfect way to develop team building skills, problem solving, and show your kids some of your favourite places. Plan your own or sign up for a professionally lead hunt with other families. Either option will be sure to get you up and moving.

If you’re planning on creating your own, here are some ideas on how to execute:

1. Use Google maps to help plan your route. Google Maps has a great feature that allows you to drop pins, share with friends, and provides you real time knowledge for travel times.
2. Dress accordingly for weather if you’re venturing into the great outdoors.. Be sure to wear an appropriate amount of layers and comfy footwear.
3. Apply a buddy system. Teams are a great way to ensure that everyone has fun and stays safe (especially those with smaller children).

If you’re looking for a way to get everyone together for family day, but don’t want to brave the frigid February temperatures, board games are just the activity for you!

Selecting a board game can sometimes be one of the biggest challenges, especially for those who have kids with an age gap. To help take the stress out of planning, we’ve put together a list of some of our favourite go-to board games.

Preschool & up: Candy Land, it’s simple, exciting and one of the most beloved preschooler games!

School Age & up: Guess Who is perfect for kids who love to ask questions and feed their curiosity.

Tweens/Teens: Monopoly is  one of the most popular board games of all time, and can also help begin teaching   your kids some important lessons on fiscal responsibility.

Young Adults: Trivia is the perfect game for families with young adults,  or who may already have a family of their own. The great thing about trivia  is you can play with small or large groups, teams, solos and duos.

All ages: One thing that every age group has in common is the ability to build up an appetite.  That’s why we recommend making this delicious Chicken Quesadilla recipe on game night.  It’s a quick and easy snack to make, which means less pause in the action, more game time and fun with the family.
