Storing chicken in a fridge

Storing Chicken

Once you’ve bought your chicken, it’s important to store it correctly to avoid spoilage.
  • Refrigerate or freeze your chicken immediately after getting home from the grocery store. Do not leave raw poultry on the counter or sitting in the car for more than 2 hours.
  • Chicken can remain fresh in its original packaging in the coldest part of your refrigerator until the best before date.
  • If you do not intend to cook it within this time, it should be frozen. Frozen, well-wrapped poultry can be stored in the freezer for up to one year.
  • Place the packaged poultry in a separate plastic bag at the bottom of the refrigerator to prevent it, or its juices, from contaminating other food items.
